The Fordham Undergraduate Research Journal is student-run and features high quality, peer-reviewed, original research conducted by undergraduate students. As the Design Director, I stepped in to create a cohesive visual identity that is universal and timeless and to be used for years to come.

Deliverables included the new logo, style guide for the new website as well as web redesign on WordPress that was handed over alongside with the print issue.

FURJ is journal run at Fordham University in New York City. As an interdisciplinary journal it covers everything from the sciences, humanities, and social sciences and works such as scholarly book reviews, review essays, and feature articles are accepted annually.

After much deliberation and ideation, it was agreed upon that the new logo should exude elegance and nod back to academia in a classical tribute. The full name of FURJ also needed to be incorporated seamlessly into the logo as needed. While Fordham University’s primary color is maroon, FURJ wanted to break away from the shade as a go-to accent. As part of my leadership alongside their art advisor, we concluded that the annual issues will be used as inspiration for accents each year, effectively moving FURJ forward as a refreshing academic celebration.

The website was also redesigned by following the new brand guidelines and logo. Alt text was included for all images at handoff and with accessibility guidelines in mind, the website was also designed responsively.
